Ethos
Heart Sound is the result of a long held dream to share heart-centred
singing and sound work in community on the land.
We camp in circles sharing practical tasks,
including cooking on wood fires. We aim to
create a supportive environment and a strong sense of community.
In living simply on the land we are more able to appreciate the natural
environment. We seek to
treat the land respectfully and to minimise the impact of our presence on it.
The Core Group
Heart Sound is organised by Miryam Clough, Nick Prater, Richard Thomas
and Roger Marshall, who meet regularly throughout the year to plan all aspects of the camp.

Miryam is a homeopath, MBTI
practitioner and doctoral research student. She fell in love with camping,
natural voice work and DUP six years ago when she launched her camp life on a working
ticket at the Unicorn Dance Camp, and has worked at the Unicorn and Whitsun
camps since then leading children’s workshops and generally interfering in
Roger’s café. She has two daughters aged 12 and 16 who are also keen camp-goers.
Miryam is coordinating the
wellbeing area, teens' programme, bookings and
working tickets.
Nick is a musician and composer who found his voice while singing with trees 30
years ago. In the 1980’s he was singing and playing with the chanting group ‘Prana’,
and started giving voice workshops to enable people to share his love of music
and harmony of all kinds. Since then he has been giving workshops throughout New
Zealand and the UK, specializing in Gospel-style and original harmony songs,
opening the door to singing for hundreds of people who never thought they could
do it.
Nick coordinates the main programme and liaises with the teachers.
Richard has had a passion for singing for many years, both in a community choir
environment and singing jazz with local musicians. He has taken part in many
voice and dance camps and has also been involved in the organisation and running
of the creativity area of some camps.

Richard is having a sabbatical this year!
The site and cafe are managed by Roger, who has lots of skills and
experience when it comes to catering and plumbing in challenging
circumstances and creating magical spaces in fields.
Roger has a mellow bass voice and sings with the Gasworks Choir. He has
organised and worked at camps for many years and brings this experience to
planning meetings.
